We may have a couple months until Halloween but now is the time to start planning costumes and buying tickets if you want to attend Mickey’s Halloween Party at Disneyland. Tickets are already on sale and will sell out! Beyond buying your tickets to this after hours event, you need to consider what costume to wear. While costumes are not required, they do make the event extra fun and most guests do participate. Read below for Mickey’s Halloween Party costume ideas and tips.
Fall is one of my favorite times to visit Disneyland because of all the Halloween Time fun. All guests visiting from September 11- November 1st can enjoy the festive decor and extra special themed attractions. In addition, guests can purchase tickets to Mickey’s Halloween Party on select nights. The party features even more Halloween fun from trick or treating and dance parties to an exclusive parade and fireworks show. My favorite part of the Halloween party is the costumes. All the Disney characters are wearing their own fun Halloween costumes and all guests (including adults) are encouraged to dress up!
I’ve attend the event a few times and wanted to share a few Mickey’s Halloween Party costume ideas and tips with you. Let’s start with a few good costume ideas!
1. Classic Disney Costumes
From Mickey and Minnie to Winnie the Pooh and Peter Pan, there’s an amazing variety of classic Disney costume possibilities. There are plenty of royal options from Merida and Mulan to Cinderella and Prince Charming. And let’s not forget about the villains! Captain Hook, Ursula the Sea Witch and Cruella deVille would all make great costume choices.
2. Star Wars & Marvel Costumes
The Star Wars and Marvel universes are always well represented at the Not So Scary Halloween party. With Star War: The Force Awakens opening later this year and also the new Star Wars Rebels animated series premiering last year, I think the FORCE will be especially strong this year.
3. New Disney Sensations
Of course Elsa and the rest of FROZEN were WELL represented last Halloween. I think Elsa, Anna, Olaf and Kristoff will be quite popular again this year. Disney Pixar’s latest sensation Inside Out is also a super fun theme and likely to be very popular this year as well.
4. Disney Parks Inspired Costumes
How about dressing your favorite Disney attraction or character from that attraction? A few Disneyland inspired costumes include the hitch hiking ghosts from the Haunted Mansion, Davy Crockett and Tom Sawyer, Tower of Terror Bell Hops ,and Indiana Jones.
5. Travel Themed Costumes
TravelingMom is a travel focused site so I’d be remiss if I didn’t suggest a travel themed costume. From planes, trains and automobiles to costumes that represent your favorite location like the Statue of Liberty or Hula girl, you’re only limited by your imagination.
Don’t love any of these ideas? Wear a costume outside the Disney universe. I saw plenty of those options as well. Just put on your favorite and get ready for a fun evening.
Mickey’s Halloween Party Costume Tips
1. Your costume should be comfortable and weather appropriate. Remember you will be walking around a theme park for several hours. Wear comfortable shoes and go with a light weight costume. California is warm throughout the fall and can be down right hot until the sun goes down. If you are worried about cooler weather, bring a light layer you can put on underneath your costume if necessary.
2. Keep your costume family friendly. Your costume should not include any weapons, even pretend ones that can be mistaken as a real one. Also make sure nothing you bring or wear is sharp or pointy, you don’t want to accident poke somebody with your costume.
3. Masks are allowed but make sure your vision isn’t impaired.
4. Guests dressed as Disney characters are not allowed to take pictures with other guests or sign autographs. Leave that to professionals.
Most importantly if you attend Mickey’s Halloween party, dress up! This is the only time adults are allowed to wear costumes at Disneyland unless you count Disneybounding which is a topic for another day. There’s no sense in letting this fun go to waste! Also these tips apply to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Walt Disney World as well!
