Need a break from the traditional theme park action at Disney’s Animal Kingdom? Check out the Boneyard, a large play area in DinoLand where kids can blow off steam and parents to rest their feet without the lines and crowds. With lively music and interactive features for kids from toddlers to tweens, it’s a hidden gem you shouldn’t pass by.

The Boneyard is located near the entrance to DinoLand USA, on left side just after you pass under the huge dinosaur bridge. The bridge in fact connects one side of the Boneyard to other, although there is only one entrance and exit to the play area. While adult supervision is necessary, a cast member does stand near the entrance/exit to ensure little ones don’t accident
ally leave on their own. The boneyard is recommend for kids up to the age of 10.

The Boneyard Excavation Site
Once inside Dinoland head over the dinosaur bridge to the dig site. It’s shaded with large fans which helps take the edge off the Florida heat. Kids can excavate fossils from Triceratops and a Tyrannosaurus Rex in a huge sand bit. Rest assured, this is no standard sand box. This “sand” doesn’t create clouds of dust and brushes off easily. There are usually plenty of abandoned sand buckets available although you can acquire your own with the purchase of a kids meal at Restaurantosaurus.
The Boneyard Playground
Head back to the other side of the Boneyard for more active fun at the multi-level play structure complete rickety bridges, climbing nets and slides. There are also caves to explore, interactive dinosaur footprints and a small water feature. There is less shade on this side but you will find some, in addition to huge fans throughout the area.

There is no dining or restroom facilities within The Boneyard but both are close by. There are several places to grab a bite in DinoLand, I recommend Restaurantosaurus with indoor seating and kids meals that come in green buckets! Don’t miss the character experiences at DinoLand or other fun attractions including a few dinosaur themed rides. If you kids are super dinosaur fans, consider heading to Build-A-Dino in Downtown Disney.
