You don’t have to wait until National Donut Day (June 6) to enjoy the treats at the Donut Bar San Diego. A few months I enjoyed a girls’ weekend in San Diego and one of the new restaurants we tried was the Donut Bar in downtown San Diego.
Unique Donut Varieties
The Donut Bar offers seriously unique and yummy donut creations. Their menu rotates but recent varieties include root beer float, candy bar, maple bourbon, cake batter and strawberry split.
DONUT BAR is a completely different kind of donut company. While focusing on the real ingredients, flavors, textures and design of artisan donuts, Donut Bar promotes and celebrates an artisan baking culture that first appeared in Europe and America in the 1940s which has recently been revived by small groups of like minded out of the box thinkers in America.
Watch their facebook page each afternoon for a list of the next day’s varieties. They do sell out early most days, in fact their hours of operation are listed as 7AM (8AM on weekends) until they sell out. You definitely want to visit the Donut Bar earlier rather than later. We arrived 15 minutes before they opened on Super Bowl Sunday and found a line 20 people deep already.
You don’t have to take my word for their awesomeness, USA Today names the Donut Bar San Diego as one of the top 10 tastiest doguhnut shops in the US.
Traveling Mom Tips for Visiting Donut Bar
Preorder your donuts the night before via the Donut Bar website to ensure you can purchase all the flavors you want. Bring the kids with you on Saturday or Sunday and they’ll receive a special kids donut free. The kids donuts are usually super cute, I’ve seen Lightning McQueen & Mater donuts recently.
Can’t make it to San Diego for National Donut Day? The Donut Bar recently opened a location in Orange County. Plus there are many unique donut shop options across the country including San Jose and Colorado.
